Back in 1959, we looked at the future of lab diagnosis services and knew exactly where we wanted to be. Since then, many histories are part of our History but our look remains the same: always alive and alert to all futures!

Behind a great future there’s always a past of proven achievements and our course witnesses this journey.

  • Laboratório Dr. Joaquim Chave was the first company of the Group to be established, in 1959. Its history of more than half a century reinforces a structured evolution, whether considering a technological approach or the quality of our services. Nowadays we have a network of more than 150 Sample Collection Facilities sites all part of our original structure Laboratório de Análises Clínicas Dr. Joaquim Chaves.

  • In 1995, Casa de Saúde de Carnaxide is acquired, extending our health offer to services and cares destined to psychiatric patients.

  • In 1998, we open the first outpatient clinic – Clínica de Miraflores, as a way of coping with the lack of complimentary diagnosis exams and improving the offer of clinical services. Based on a strict commitment between safety and our patients’ trust, together with permanent technological innovation, the Clínica de Miraflores quickly gained a prominent place in the area of outpatient medicine in Portugal.

  • In 2002, JCS expands its activity to the area of treatment and opens the Centro Oncológico Dr. Natália Chaves (Carnaxide, Lisboa) - Radiotherapy & Oncology Clinic, today a national reference, especially oriented for cancer patients.

  • 4 years later, in 2006, Clínica de Radioncologia do Algarve opens, following a partnership with Associação Oncológica do Algarve. This clinic offers a wide range of treatments, and since its opening cancer patients in the south of the country can avoid going to Lisbon for their treatments.

  • In 2008, the structural conversion and modernization of the renowned Clínica António A. Campos gives rise to the Clínica de Radioncologia do Porto, fully committed to outpatient Radiotherapy treatments.

  • Clínica de Radioncologia da Madeira, in Funchal, is opened on February 2009. Up to this moment, there were no Radiotherapy services in the whole of Madeira Autonomous Region.

  • In 2010, we open Clínica de Radioncologia de Santarém, part of the Hospital de Santarém and operating in strict association with the Serviço de Oncologia do Hospital. In this clinic, around 1000 cancer patients get their treatments every year, close to their area of residence. This reality helps reduce social and psychological costs of shifting to other urban centres.

  • Also in 2010, we open our Clínica de Cascais, an outpatient clinic located in CascaiShopping (a shopping mall), featuring an innovative concept of bounding with patients. Offering services from several medical and surgical specialties, complimentary diagnosis exams, equipped with advanced techniques for the performance of endoscopies and colonoscopies and also providing nursing and lab services, this clinic operates in extended working hours, 7 days a week.

  • Centro Médico de Moscavide, a health unit opened in 1979, is incorporated in Joaquim Chaves Saúde in 2010 and since then has benefitted from the clinic’s excellence and association with our diagnosis units and JCS labs networks.

  • In this same year, Joaquim ChavesSaúde incorporates Clínica Pais de Sousa, changing its name to Clínica de Radiologia de Cascais. The main purpose of this clinic is to offer health services in the centre of Cascais town.

  • In 2012, Laboratório Dr. Joaquim Chaves Algarve opens, increasing the presence of JCS in the south of the country.

  • In 2013, JCS reinforced its presence in Algarve by acquiring Dra. Maria de Lurdes Rufino, increasing our Sample Collection Facilities sites network in Portugal.

  • In June 2014, as part of its global expansion plan, JCS acquires 80% of a Laboratório de Análises Clínicas em Maputo , Mozambique. This lab has grown in accordance with quality features that are our trademark, while also taking into account local habits and cultures.

  • In September 2014, Clínica de Sintra opens, being the most recent Joaquim ChavesSaúde unit.
