On November 30, Laboratório Dr. Joaquim Chaves celebrated its 58th anniversary.
He was a true pioneer, using the first commercial kits, the first thyroid diagnostic techniques and the first calculation of basal metabolism, having installed an unprecedented outpatient facility. Today, 58 years later, that same objective drives the strategy of Laboratório Dr. Joaquim Chaves.
In 2017, a major robotics consolidation was introduced, enabling a greater number of tests to be carried out in one day, maintaining or even increasing the clinic’s high level of quality. New cutting edge technologies were introduced involving liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The flow cytometry, ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) and Pathological Anatomy tissue processing equipment was also renewed.
The implementation of new technologies to determine sugar intolerance (lactose, fructose) or polyols (sorbitol, xilitol) through breath tests, avoiding multiple blood collections, is now a reality, as well as using Lipoprint technology to determine cholesterol subfractions (VLDL, LDL or HDL), better markers for evaluating cardiovascular risks than the respective lipoproteins, and the automation of immunohistochemistry in histology.
In other words, 58 years later, Laboratório Dr. Joaquim Chaves continues to innovate and invest, in order to expand its portfolio and improve the quality of the results it delivers its clients, whether users or physicians. Thus it is a leader in the laboratory field in Portugal and Europe.
