Vertigo

Patient with dizziness

Vertigo and other balance disorders are frequent and can have different origins, namely changes in the vestibular system, located in the inner ear.

Loss of balance and the sensation of spinning are frequent symptoms of Vertigo, but it can sometimes manifest in different ways affecting balance. The diagnosis and treatment of vertigo and other balance disorders falls under the scope of an area of specialisation within Otorhinolaryngology, dedicated to the study of these disorders, to exclude neurological problems.

There are different causes for vertigo, the most frequent being Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Ménière's Disease, Vestibular Neuritis, Vestibular Migraine (migraine-associated vertigo), and Phobic Postural Vertigo.

In our clinics, dedicated professionals are able to diagnose the cause and devise a treatment plan for these disorders via close examination of the patient’s medical history and test results. This evaluation during the vertigo consultation is complemented with further exams, such as the audiology and balance studies via videonystagmography (VNG) and computerized dynamic posturography (CDP), available at our units.

At Joaquim Chaves Saúde a dedicated and experienced team of professionals work together to determine the cause of vertigo, supported by advanced diagnostic means that allow for a quick and accurate diagnosis. Benefit from the most advanced treatment of vertigo-related pathologies and restore your health and quality of life.
