Currently, the minimally invasive surgical approach – Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery, or VATS – is the preferred approach. Through the use of extremely small caliber instruments, of just 5mm, it allows for more effective, less traumatic treatments and with a reduced recovery time. This specialty is the most indicated for treatments for lung cancer and lung metastases, hyperhidrosis of the hands and armpits, pneumothorax and pulmonary emphysema, pleural effusion, diaphragm surgery, chest wall surgery and mediastinal tumors, among others.
